WSP Trooper Injured When Driver Hits Patrol Car on I-82 South of Kennewick
A driver hit a Washington State Patrol trooper's patrol car on Interstate 82 about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, near milepost 129, about 16 miles south of Kennewick near Plymouth, according to WSP. The trooper was in a fully marked patrol vehicle with its emergency lights on, helping with a lane closure on eastbound I-82, when an eastbound GMC Terrain failed to yield and hit it. The closure followed an earlier SUV rollover, the Tri-City Herald reported.
WSP identified the trooper as Matthew Parham, 38, of Kennewick. He was taken to Lourdes Medical Center, and the Tri-City Herald reported he was treated and released. The other driver, a 30-year-old Hermiston woman, was not hurt. WSP said she was arrested on suspicion of DUI, and the crash remains under investigation.
TTOW wishes Trooper Parham a full and quick recovery.
Washington's Move Over law, RCW 46.61.212, requires drivers approaching police cars, emergency vehicles, tow trucks and roadside assistance vehicles with warning lights to slow down and, when it's safe, move over a lane. Fines are doubled.
Join us for the Slow Down Move Over Parade on Saturday, October 17, in the Tri-Cities.
