Arrest Made in Death of Connecticut Tow Operator Alex Ramos

Police in Bloomfield, Connecticut, arrested a Hartford man on Monday, Oct. 19, in the Sept. 8 crash that killed tow operator Alex Ramos, 26, on Tunxis Avenue.

Curran Melanson, 28, was arrested at his home. He is charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and failure to slow down or move over. His bond was set at $425,000.

Investigators said Melanson's 2009 Honda Civic ended up on its roof near the scene. He stayed there and was taken to the hospital. Police obtained search warrants for the car and his medical records, and a judge approved the arrest warrant last Thursday.

Dozens of tow trucks joined the funeral procession for Ramos at Rentschler Field.

Tow Truck Operators of Washington sends our thoughts to Alex's family and to his fellow operators in Connecticut. Every state has a Move Over law. When you see flashing lights on the shoulder, slow down and move over.
